Discover Email

MessageFlow’s SMS Fallback ensures you never miss a contact. Our team configures sending logic so that devices without RCS automatically receive key information via SMS – maintaining campaign reach across your entire database.

Discover SMS

If you have your own app, take advantage of unlimited Push notifications. With MessageFlow, pricing is based on database size, not the number of sends. Use RCS to boost reach and activation, and Mobile Push to maintain ongoing, loyalty-focused communication.

Frequently Asked Questions: RCS FAQ

RCS (Rich Communication Services) is a modern mobile messaging standard that enhances traditional SMS with multimedia content, interactive elements and two-way communication. It provides an app-like experience directly inside the native Messages app.

An RCS message is a rich, multimedia communication format sent through the Messages app. It can include:

  • photos and videos,
  • product carousels,
  • location sharing,
  • interactive buttons and suggested replies,
  • CTAs such as “Buy now”, “Add to cart”, “Book”, “Call”,
  • verified sender branding and custom colours.

These elements allow brands to offer visually engaging, highly interactive customer experiences.

RCS works over the internet (Wi-Fi or mobile data), enabling real-time communication and delivery of rich content. Messages are sent using the user’s native messaging app and do not require any additional downloads.

If the device does not support RCS, MessageFlow can activate SMS Fallback, automatically converting the message into SMS to ensure full delivery.

RCS helps brands:

  • increase engagement thanks to rich, interactive formats,
  • shorten the purchase journey with in-message CTAs,
  • improve customer experience with real-time two-way communication,
  • reinforce trust with verified sender ID and branding,
  • automate onboarding, sales and customer service,
  • achieve higher CTR, open rates and ROAS than SMS and email.

Businesses use RCS for:

  • promotional and sales campaigns,
  • onboarding journeys,
  • product recommendations and cross-sell,
  • transactional notifications,
  • appointment reminders,
  • customer service and support,
  • post-purchase communication and loyalty programs.

RCS is most widely adopted in industries that require speed, personalisation and high engagement, including:

  • e-commerce,
  • finance and banking,
  • retail,
  • local services,
  • telecommunications,
  • travel and hospitality,
  • logistics and delivery.

RCS Business Messaging (also known as RBM or A2P RCS) is the enterprise version of RCS that allows companies to communicate with customers at scale. RBM supports:

  • verified business profiles,
  • multimedia-rich content,
  • automated chatbots,
  • two-way messaging,
  • interactive product displays and CTAs.

RCS allows businesses to include pre-defined suggested replies and interactive buttons within the message. These elements enable users to respond or take action instantly with one tap – for example:

  • “Yes / No / More info”.
  • “Buy now / Add to cart / Redeem code”,
  • “View product / Contact support / Locate store”.

This reduces friction, speeds up conversion and increases engagement.

Yes. RCS includes multiple security features:

  • verified sender ID,
  • anti-phishing protections,
  • end-to-end encryption (for supported traffic),
  • security-by-design architecture.

MessageFlow additionally ensures compliance with:

  • GDPR,
  • NIS2,
  • DORA,
  • ISO 27001 and ISO 22301.

All communication is processed in a secure environment with full transparency and control.

RCS improves conversions by offering an interactive, visually engaging experience that feels similar to using a modern mobile app. Key factors include:

  • high open rates thanks to verified sender branding,
  • engaging visuals (video, rich cards, carousels),
  • instant actions via interactive buttons,
  • simplified purchase flow without leaving the message,
  • deeper customer interaction through two-way messaging.

As a result, RCS campaigns regularly outperform SMS and email in CTR, conversion rates and ROAS.

By default, we rely on precise database verification (Capability Check), sending RCS messages only to devices that support the standard. This maximizes engagement and optimises budget usage.

However, it is also possible to extend the campaign with an advanced SMS Fallback mechanism. Once configured, the system automatically takes care of users without RCS support.

The mechanism works on the fly – detecting, in real time, any inability to deliver RCS (or TPL timeout) and instantly converting the message into an SMS, ensuring full database coverage without any action required from you.
